I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a qualified NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor.
An IBCLC is a health care professional who specialises in the clinical management of breastfeeding. NCT Breastfeeding counsellors offer mother-to-mother support, information and counselling on matters related to infant feeding. Both of these roles require in-depth education in lactation and breastfeeding physiology, as well as comprehensive training in counselling skills. Wearing both of these hats means I am able to offer a unique service to new parents in that I hold the only internationally recognised qualification in breastfeeding management, whilst approaching my practice from a person centred, counselling perspective.
It is a requirement of both roles, and something I welcome, that I undertake regular continuing professional development in order to re-certify and re-licence, so my practice is up-to-date and takes account of recent research.
In 2008 I trained with NCT to become a counselling supervisor and work with other Breastfeeding Counsellors to supervise their counselling and breastfeeding support practice, both in groups and one-to-one. I am a Breastfeeding Peer Support Trainer.
I am a member of the Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB) and International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA).
My indemnity insurance is provided by Holistic Insurance.
