Supporting Breastfeeding in the First 24hrs

An online workshop for:

IBCLCs, Breastfeeding Counsellors, Midwives, Doulas, Antenatal Teachers, Postnatal Support Workers and all those who work with new parents

The first 24 hours following birth are a delicate transitionary phase for mother and baby. What happens with feeding decisions is key to establishing effective breastfeeding. In the words of Linda Smith, to establish 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding one must first establish 6 hours.

In this workshop, we will explore:

o the biology of what happens to the mother and what happens to the baby in the first hours after birth

o    how to empower new parents to navigate establishing breastfeeding

o    how to support and inform when things are challenging

o    how to use this knowledge in antenatal teaching contexts
